/r/visualnovels Best Visual Novel 2.0
The Rules
I'm going to use animebracket like I've done the last few contest since it's easiest to work with these days. For those who aren't familiar with it, the quick and dirty of how it's run will be:
Step 1) Nomination Phase: People nominate as many visual novels as they like. It only takes one nomination for a VN to go the next phase. This will last for about a week.
Step 2) Elimination Phase: You simply vote for the visual novels you want to see in the contest, as many or as few as you like. Similarly done in previous contests but streamlined through anime bracket. It also determines the seeding of the visual novels in the bracket. This portion will last about a week.
Step 3) Voting! This is straightforward and I want to try to have every available match votable and have polls run for a week.
Some ground rules for nominating entries:
- When nominating, the name of the Visual Novel and some kind of picture is required. The picture you nominate may not be the final one used, but it can be helpful for verifying which visual novel it is.
- If an entrant has a vndb page (v+number URL), it is considered eligible for this contest.
- If there's an entry that you think should be allowed but isn't on vndb (e.g. Zero Time Dilemma) feel free to either leave a comment, DM, or even just nominate and the mod team will decide if we consider it eligible.
- Any visual novel on vndb is allowed. This includes untranslated VNs, otomeges, BL, yuri, nukiges, EVNs, gameplay ones seen as JRPGs/Fighting Games, etc
- In this contest, there will no be forced series merging. vndb once again will be a determining factor of how entries are allowed. For example, make sure to nominate Muv-Luv and Alternative separately, Umineko and Umineko Chiru separately, Baldr Sky Dive 1 and 2 separately, etc.
- Even if a single visual novel has had multiple releases/expansions/remasters, only 1 visual novel can be allowed per (v+number URL) page (example: Clannad, Go Go Nippon, YU-NO, etc are only allowed once)
- Feel free to keep nominating entries as long as they're eligible and not already on the Nomination List.
- Since the original Steins;Gate won the first contest do NOT nominate it as won't be allowed this time. Steins;Gate 0 or any other spinoff is still allowed.
So as some may remember I recently ran a poll to determine what our next bracket popularity contest should be a few months ago. The H-scene contest won. While it would be funny, it'd be a bit too much of an exclusive bracket and I'd prefer not to disallow entrants due to certain reddit rules. We've seen Best Guy and Girl multiple times already so I think most people know what to expect. A best song contest can be hard to get people to listen to hundreds of new songs they haven't heard before and vote fairly. A best route contest can unfortunately get into spoilers unless we figure a way around that.
There were some interesting ideas people brought up as alternatives likes Best Villain. However, I figure another Best Visual Novel contest is a safe option to do first and should be ran at least one more time, especially since we've had many well-liked VNs that have come out in the 3+ years since the first one.
